Does anyone have a copy of this month’s 90:00 Soccer Magazine? They have the following article:
MLS Expansion
MLS is looking to expand to 16 teams by 2010. We narrow the field down to three deserving cities with an old school knockout tournament.
I would like to read it, but it is not online. Can someone […]

Let’s dissect a yesterday’s news confirming Major League Soccer’s interest in New York City being the 18th team. Here is the quote from the Soccer Times article:
SoccerTimes was told off-the-record by an MLS official that the top candidate would be New York City with a soccer-specific stadium built adjacent to Citi Field, […]

An unnamed source within Major League Soccer told the Soccer Times that New York City is the frontrunner for the 18th team in the league.
I’ll post some reaction/commentary to this news tomorrow. Enjoy your Christmas!
Thanks to Mets 1989 for the link.

I might have been a little too negative yesterday with all the doom and gloom, so I would like to remind everyone some of the reason why we are here. Back in September, the Las Vegas Sun posted their odds on future MLS expansion.
Here are the results:
Seattle…………………. 3-2 (15th MLS franchise)
St. Louis………………. […]

I’m in a foul mood this morning.  Maybe it is because I just spend two hours fixing permalinks.  Or it could be that I have been sick for a week. To be honest, it is because I don’t want a team in Florida.
I read a Miami Herald article last night that just got […]

In the previous Group of Death post I outlined the field of contenders for the next three MLS expansion slots. Well this week had some potentially bracket-busting information.
Miami now has to be considered as a possible franchise even though two previous Floridian teams have failed. There have been preliminary talks for the state to allocate […]

Red Card, a poster on Big Soccer’s forums, linked this Newsday article on Hank Steinbrenner and his interest in soccer.
For those that do not know, Hank is the son of Yankee owner George Steinbrenner. Hank and his brother Hal have recently taken over the baseball operations of the Yankees, since the Boss is reportedly in […]

Fred Wilpon has already been reported by Don Garber, Major League Soccer commish, as a potential owner for a New York City soccer franchise. In the state of the league address and subsequent interviews, Garber confirmed Wilpon rumors and added that other parties were also in discussion with the league about a New York […]

I am a fan of Soccer by Ives and his Q&A posts (maybe because we are both Peruvian and are suffering through another lost opportunity to make the World Cup). He usually gets at least one question from his readers about a NYC franchise. The latest Q&A was no different.
THE NICK- Is New York City […]
