Just read on the Miami Herald’s website the redevelopment proposal which includes the soccer stadium is moving forward. The County Commission overrode the Miami mayor’s veto. The project still needs approval from state regulators in April 2008.
Where does this leave us? Bringing a NYC FC to the five boroughs was never going to be easy, but it looks like we have a little more competition. There are no guarantees and there will be two expansion openings for Major League Soccer’s 2010 season.
Miami does not have an ownership group yet, so let’s hope that Santa Wilpon gives us a present soon.
Hope is alive and what does not kill us, makes us stronger.

Is now Miami our main opponent for 18th team for MLS 2010 ?
Looks like it… St Louis/Philly loser and Portland are also up there. 5-6 cities for 2 spots in 2010.
I think we have a good chance, but Wilpon or some other ownership group is going to have to announce their intention in 2008.
Inside sources tell me that these developments in Miami are directly affecting a second NY team. They put the odds at 9-1 that NY will have a second team within the next 10 years.
MLS is more concerned about it’s national footprint right now. And the Southeast is a priority.
The true priority is only the New York City !!!!
I am sure that only just Wilpon to present the project of the stadium in Queens(I hope in January 2008),Garber to put NYCFC in MLS in 2010
Your a mean one! Mr Kubah!
I like the name Bringer of Sad News, but we’ll see. Miami has never gotten anything like this done before and nothing is official.
The last two Florida franchises did leave a national footprint… they made the MLS look weak and failing.
Actually, the truth is, even Wilpon is backtracking a bit with the new developments in Miami.
The funny thing is, if MLS wasn’t doing so well with attracting interest like this, NY would have been a done deal ages ago.
So a second NY team is suffering primarily due to the success of MLS.
Ironic, huh?
Ah, but the last two Floridian franchises didn’t have SSS’s.
you get an SSS in a good location (which looks like is panning out), get a star or two to create some buzz via the DP rule(which isn’t going to be hard to get…as half the EPL and Serie A players vacation in Miami and own properties there as it is.) And Miami is going to attract 25k on a regular basis.
My question is. If and when NY dont get a second team, what will the BB’s do? Support RBNY or Brooklyn Knights?
You’re funny… if I didn’t know better I would think you were a trolling Red Bull fan.
Which reminds me that I have to put back up the comment rules.
Bringer of Oh So Sad News…….we will prob show our support at Molloy Stanner soccer games(boys and girls).
This only means that the Borough Boys have a lot of work to do next year - we have at least until april to see if this vote goes through!! Lots of things can happen till then
Don’t let the naysayers get to you. NYC FC will happen… and if doesn’t, no one can say it was because the BBs. The journey is part of the fun anyways.
FORZA MOLLOY? hahaha!
WE SHALL NOT, WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED
WE SHALL NOT, WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED
NOT BY D.C, THE REVS OR THE REEEED BULLS
WE SHALL NOT BE MOVED.
There are still some loopholes. This is not a done deal - Borough Boys - dont shutter - we will prevail!
